Kesha tells Nog that he's thought of as a "hero " Nog disagrees and becomes agitated, especially when Kesha indirectly mentions his prosthetic leg. That night Jake visits Nog with his new girlfriend Kesha while Vic is performing a show. He starts by giving him a new cane as a gift he explains that it is modeled after one carried by Errol Flynn. She discusses the situation with Vic and he agrees to help wean Nog off of his cane. However, Dax suggests that they allow it to play out for the time being, believing that it could ultimately aid in his recovery. Nog decides to remain on the holosuite for a time to serve as the "rehabilitation center" for his medical leave, a decision which puzzles and infuriates some on the station. Unwilling to return to his quarters, Nog decides to stay in Vic's spare suite for the night, and Vic is happy to comply. Vic talks to Nog about the problems with his leg, and his frustrations at the seeming inability of the others on Deep Space Nine to understand what he is going through. He experiences flashbacks to his time on AR-558, including his injury and Bashir playing "I'll Be Seeing You" for him while he was on the operating table. He goes into the holosuite and activates the Las Vegas program to see Vic himself, and requests that he the song for him. This finally frustrates Jake, who asks Nog to leave the room for a time. Over the next few days he does little other than sleep and listen to a recording of "I'll Be Seeing You" sung by Vic Fontaine repeatedly. Tired of people telling him the pain is merely psychosomatic, Nog insists that he wants to be left alone. Nog walks with a cane and experiences constant pain from the prosthetic, although medical scans say that he should not. Everyone is on hand to welcome Nog, but he seems withdrawn and asks only to be allowed to go to his quarters. He is given medical leave to recover from his injuries. Nog returns to Deep Space Nine from the hospital with a new prosthetic leg after losing his during the battle on AR-558.
